The International Computer Highschool of Bucharest was a very pleasant surprise for me: clean, well-equipped, even comfortable! The way it looks speaks for itself about the necessity of this educational alternative.

The International Computer High School of Bucharest was founded in 1995 by Lumina Educational Institutions. It’s a private high school which is approved by and follows the standards and regulations of the Romanian Ministry of Education.

ICHB applies modern teaching methods, in small classes, ranging from 12 to 18 students and has professional, active, creative, experienced teachers. It has laboratories with modern equipment: computer assisted education, projectors, rich school library, presentation rooms, sports fields and gym; a friendly relationship between teachers and students; various clubs for extra-curricular activities: Chess and Mind Games Club, Basketball Club, Judo Club, Community Service Club, IT Club, Science Club etc. counseling service providing individual guidance, a friendly family-teacher-administration relationship; high proficiency in read, written and spoken English; second foreign language alternatives (Turkish, Spanish, German).

ICHB follows the Romanian curriculum, but most of the subjects are being taught in English: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Informatics, DTP, Biology and English. In Romania, all students study the same subjects as imposed by the Ministry. The grading system used is the Romanian numerical grading system, with grades ranging from 1 to 10, 10 being the maximum; 5 is the passing mark. At the end of each semester and at the end of the year, the final grade is obtained by the arithmetic mean of the grades received throughout the year. Where term papers apply (Romanian, Mathematics, Physics, Informatics), this arithmetic mean is multiplied by 3 added with the term paper’s result and divided by 4 to obtain the final grade.

Our school has been preparing students for the Olympiads since 1997 in special Olympiad groups. Students that have achievements in National Olympiads are rewarded with scholarships and charge-free education. These students can also participate in extra preparatory classes, 2 to 4 days a week, in sessions of 3 hours, after normal school schedule.

The examination all Romanian students take when they finish high school is the Baccalaureate exam which consists of the following subjects: Romanian – speaking and writing, a foreign language – speaking, Mathematics, a science and a social science.
