The network is provided for students to do school work, conduct research and communicate with others. Access to network services is given to students who agree to act in a considerate and responsible manner.
ACCESS IS A PRIVILEGE - NOT A RIGHT. TO BE ALLOWED TO USE THE COMPUTERS YOU MUST ACT RESPONSIBLY.
- Students are responsible for their behavior while using the school network.
- Network Administrators may review files and communications to maintain system integrity and insure students are using the system responsibly.
- Files stored on school servers are not private. Network Technicians and Administrators can look at student’s folders at any time.
When using the School Computers, follow these rules:
- Never use another person’s login or let another person use your login.
- Never give your password to another person. You are responsible for your password and what ever is done under your account is your responsibility.
- Never play with another person’s login account, change their password or delete their files.
- Never use your mobile without permission
- Students are not allowed to play any games in the computer lab.
- Do not download executable files (this includes Winamp, WinZip, PKZip, utilities or drivers).
- Trespassing in another’s folders or files is not allowed (this includes system files and folders).
- Food and drinks are not allowed in the computer lab. Leave all food outside the lab.
- Conserve print resources. Do not print pictures of your favorite football player or singer or a black blank page.
- You can print your homeworks and projects.
- You must be seated & working while in the computer lab.
- Take care of the computers! Intentionally damaging computers, computer networks, and any other school technology equipment is not allowed.
- LOGOFF before you leave.
- After the lesson do not leave your computer as LOCKED.
- Arrange your chair before you leave.
- You may use space on the server to store your schoolwork. Executable files are not allowed unless special permission has been given. Graphic and/or photo files must be for a specific school assignment. Network Administration reserves the right to perform file maintenance and delete inappropriate files whenever they deem necessary.
Student Internet Use:
- Within reason, freedom of speech and access to information will be honored. During school, teachers will guide students toward appropriate materials.
- The following are not allowed while using the Internet:
- Intentionally sending or displaying pictures or words that are racist or sexually explicit.
- Using obscene language in e-mails or web pages.
- Harassing, insulting or attacking others.
- Employing the network for commercial purposes.
- Non-educational chat programs and non-educational online games are prohibited.
- Do not download files from the Internet unless you have special permission from the Computer Department.
- For your own protection, students should not give out personal information while on the Internet.
- Students can access their personal email accounts during breaks and lunch.
- Students, and their parents or guardians, will assume all financial liability for any goods or services purchased via the Internet.
- Be careful when using copyrighted, registered and/or trademarked material. When using such items, make sure you give credit to the source and author in your work.
The use of the Internet connection is designed for educational purposes only and not for entertainment. A teacher or another member of the school’s staff must be physically present with the students while using the computer lab and the Internet.
CONSEQUENCES
Consequences for breach of policy (what happens if you don’t follow the rules):
The use of technology resources is a privilege, not a right.
The school recognizes that some personal use of the computer systems is acceptable. Abuse of these privileges is not permitted.
Breaking the rules may result in one or more of the following consequences:
- Suspension or cancellation of use or access privileges to all network resources.
- Payment for damages or repairs.
- Discipline under appropriate school policies including referral to the appropriate disciplinary body.
- 1st offenses, your account will be locked for 2 weeks.
- You WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to use the school computers or access any of your files, even school work that must be turned in.
- You will be expected to make-up any work on your home computer.
- REMEMBER: THE SCHOOL IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS, YOU ARE.
- 2nd offenses, your account will be locked for 3 weeks.
- You WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to use the school computers or access any of your files, even school work that must be turned in.
- You will be expected to remake any work on your home computer.
- REMEMBER: THE SCHOOL IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS, YOU ARE.
- 3rd offenses will be referred to the Disciplinary committee.
- REMEMBER: THE SCHOOL IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS, YOU ARE.
If you follow these rules, you will be able to use the computer network all year.
